Honey Rose Matcha Latte

Matcha is my happy drink. This stuff is amazing! If I am feeling low in energy or just having a down day, an afternoon cup of Matcha is just enough to get me feeling better.

Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Matcha powder contains polyphenols that have antioxidants and micronutrients found in foods like wine and chocolate. Yes, please:). Matcha can not only lift you up but also can help relax you. Matcha contains L-theanine, an amino acid that helps you have relaxed alertness (sounds like the best of both worlds). It has up to 5x more amino acids than regular tea. No wonder it makes me feel so good! Plus the amount of antioxidants in this stuff is amazing! 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea which helps protect against UV radiation and help boost blood flow to give you that lovely rosy glow! I had the idea for this post when I was in Portland and stopped at this cute coffee shop I found when I stumbled upon Wildwoodfolk’s Instagram. The pictures were so beautiful on her page and this coffee shop looked so cute. I really wanted to check it out! I’m not the super adventurous type but every now and then I get a bug and I wanted to treat myself so I decided…what the hey. I am so glad I did. I wasn’t sure what I was going to order but as soon as I spotted Lavender Matcha Latte on the menu I knew I had to try it! It was heavenly! If you live in the Portland area I highly recommend you check out Good Coffee! Plus the staff was super friendly:).

On my way to Costco (one of the main reasons I go into the big city) with my lavender matcha latte in hand (perfect timing for a pre-Costco pick-me-up), I had an epiphany. Why not try to make a rose matcha latte with the rose water I have at home! It turns out it was lovely!

So if you are having spring fever in January like me (it’s gonna be a long winter…) or just need a good pick-me-up, treat yourself to a cup of this lovely rose-hinted matcha latte..sweetened w/ a little honey:). You could definitely omit the rose if you aren’t into that sorta thing, add less or even add more depending on how rose-y you want it. I added 1/4 teaspoon and I think next time I may try it with just a 1/8th of a teaspoon. I would recommend starting low and adding more till you get it just right.

Honey Rose Matcha Latte

Servings: 1

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 tsp matcha powder*

  2. 1/4 cup water

  3. 1 cup full fat canned coconut milk ** dilute w/ water if desired

  4. 1/8-1/4 tsp rose water***

  5. 1 tbsp honey or to taste

  6. Optional garnish: dried rose petals (culinary/food grade) preferably organic

Instructions


1. Place ½ tsp matcha powder in favorite mug of choice.2. Boil water in tea kettle or pot. Add to matcha powder in mug and whisk fairly briskly to dissolve match as much as possible (it was hard for me to get all lumps out).3. In a small pot heat milk to a low boil. Once hot add honey to milk and whisk to dissolve. Then whisk in rose water.4. Pour your milk mixture into the mug of matcha and water and whisk to combine and make a little frothy. Top with pretty dried rose petals, if desired.*My favorite brand of matcha powder so far is Matcha Love. You can find it here. The brand I used for this recipe is from Thrive Market. You can find it here. Thrive brand is less expensive and didn’t notice too much of a difference. The thrive might be a little more clumpy, but not bad. **I prefer to dilute my coconut milk so it is not so-coconutty. I cut the coconut milk w/ half water. So for every cup of full coconut milk, I would dilute it w/ 1 cup of water. You can dilute it even more if you prefer. Store remaining in a mason jar in the fridge for about 4-6 days. ***I purchased this rosewater at my local tea shop….. You can also purchase it online here.Recipe adapted from Match Love.
